Falcon Families - Tomorrow is Field Day! Due to the real potential of inclement weather tomorrow, the PE staff has created an alternative plan to host things inside for our students if need be. A decision will be made by 7am tomorrow. If you are a volunteer, you should have received an email this afternoon with further instructions should we need to move things indoors. If we are able to hold the games outdoors, just a reminder to please make sure to send an extra set of clothing with your child, along with sunscreen and a labeled water bottle! Thank you for your understanding and patience! #salemschoolfalcons #salemspirit #falconpride #exerciseday #fieldday2022

Please help us officially congratulate Mrs. Andrea Stanek on her retirement at the end of this school year! Andrea started teaching in October 1989 - her first students are now 44 years old! Salem School was her very first job, and her very last! She has been here all of her teaching career. A parent came up to her on her first day and said, "Welcome to Salem, I hope you retire here," and that's exactly what she's doing! In her retirement she is going to "take care of me" and exercise when she wants, cook a recipe without being rushed, and do all of the things she loves without thinking of school! She's the type of teacher who can't let school go, so retiring is her way of letting go of a profession that is so dear to her. She has a growing family - her three daughters are marrying and having children. She has 2 granddaughters so far, so she wants to be the fun Grandma!! She and Mr. Stanek just purchased a fifth wheel camper, so they want to do a lot of camping with their whole family! She says, "I have made so many memories at Salem! I will truly miss it all! I absolutely love the day to day teaching with my students! My goal was to get them to love learning as I did when I was younger and to create childhood memories of school! Also, I have so many fabulous families that I have formed great friendships with, and our Salem staff IS topnotch- I have dear, dear friends that I will miss seeing daily. As Winnie the Pooh once said "How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard." I will always hold Salem close to my heart- I am so lucky!!" Share a memory, how Mrs. Stanek inspired you, or give her your best wishes below! ❤️ #salemschoolfalcons #retirement #wewillmissyou #bestwishes #falconproud #thankyouforyourdedication

Please help us congratulate Mrs. Wendi Upthagrove on her retirement at the end of this school year! She has been at Salem for 17 years, and an educator for 35 years...a lot longer if you count all of her childhood years when she used to bribe her little sister to play "school" with her! Of course, Wendi always had to be the teacher! She started her career in 1986 at Paris where she was for 18 years before taking a year off to stay home with her baby. She thinks it's kind of cool that she has spent her entire career between two schools, although she did split time between Paris and Brighton her first two years! Her initial response to what she's looking forward to most in retirement was "not having to worry about driving in the winter!" Actually, though, she is looking forward to reading for fun and spending winters in a warm place with beaches, palm trees and friends! Without a doubt, she will miss her students the most! She will miss helping them achieve goals and seeing the satisfaction on their faces after seeing their hard work pay off! She will miss their humor and sincerity and company more than they will ever know! Wendi says it has been an honor and a pleasure working with all of them. She says, "I am so fortunate to have spent the past 35+ years working with an amazing group of educators! Your support, guidance and friendship has meant the world to me! To the students and families that I have worked with throughout the years, I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to work with you! I cherish the memories!" Please help us congratulate Ms. Terry Borndahl on her retirement at the end of this school year! Ms. Borndahl has been in education for 28 years, starting out by subbing and volunteering in the library before becoming employed by Salem School. Through Salem School she got to experience many great things in her life. A staff member years before Terry was working here (her kids all went to Salem) suggested that she should be the parent outreach worker for the Alcohol and Other Drug Council of Kenosha County. She worked for the FAST Program, Family and Schools Together, and it changed her life . She later became facilitator of the program and went to many schools in Kenosha County facilitating the program. Terry was also on the Salem PTO when it first got started so many years ago. She also helped coach the Battle of the Books, and did so for many years assisting and then as the leader. Salem even hosted the competition for a couple years. She says she is kind of a quiet person but while hosting BOB, she had to speak to a few hundred people in the gym! She never thought she could ever do that! There are so many more experiences she could list! During retirement she plans to work on an Accounting degree and do some traveling and gardening. She is also looking forward to spending time with her family, her animals, her three dogs and volunteering at Valley of the Kings Animal Sanctuary. She will miss the kids and the staff here at Salem, such great friends and great memories!
