This week 4th grade students participated in Secret Santa, with a twist! Each student picked a name out of a hat and created an acrostic poem with their Secret Santa's name. The students worked hard at finding kind adjectives to describe each other and did a great job keeping it a secret! They shared their poems this week and it was wonderful to see the students spread some kindness throughout the class! #secretsantapoem #spreadingkindness #4thgrade #acrosticpoems

Ms. Zwiefka and her students made coffee filter snowflakes while targeting speech sounds, making requests, following directions, and sequencing! Students enjoyed experimenting with color blending while adding water to their snowflakes. They look forward to cutting their designs and adding their finishing touches once they are finished drying! ❄️

The Salem Staff kicked off our last week before winter break with a delicious taco lunch today, sponsored by the Salem School Board! De La Rosa's Taqueria served up tacos, rice, beans and chips with fresh guacamole and all of the fixings for our staff, and our amazing Salem PTO sponsored a fabulous table of sweet treats for dessert! Staff got to enjoy their lunches together and stop by the Selfie Station to take a team picture and a DIY ornament. Thank you to our School Board and the Salem PTO for sponsoring this delicious meal and dessert, it was a fun way to kick off our week! #salemschoolfalcons #staffluncheon #delarosastaqueria #SalemPTO #winterbreak #salemschoolboard #festive #happyholidays

'Tis the season for germs!🌡️ Our Health Office would like to share a reminder about when to keep your child home from school! ❄️Temperature- If your child's temperature is 100.00 degrees or above, please do not send him/her to school. They may return to school after they have been without a fever for a 24 hour period (without the aid of a fever reducing medication). ❄️Vomiting - If your child has vomited within a 24 hour period before the bus would pick him/her up for school, please do not send them to school. Your child may return to school after they have not vomited for a 24 hour period. ❄️Diarrhea - If your child has 3 or more loose stools within the previous 24 hour period, please do not send him/her to school. Your child may return to school after they have not had diarrhea for 24 hours. ❄️Respiratory Illness or Cough - If your child has a persistent cough, please do not send him/her to school. You should also contact your child's doctor. ❄️Strep Throat - If your child has Strep Throat he/she may return to school after taking their medication for a 24 hour period. ❄️Pink-eye - If your child has Pink-eye he/she may return to school after being on medication for a 24 hour period. ❄️Earache/Infection - If your child has an earache or an infection and it is accompanied by a fever, please do not send him/her to school. You should also contact your child's doctor. ❄️Sores / Rash – If your child has any uncoverable sores or an undiagnosed rash please do not send your child to school. Your child may return to school with a note from his/her doctor. ❄️Chicken Pox – If your child has Chickenpox please do not send your child to school. He/she can return to school after all blisters have dried and formed scabs, usually about 7 days after the rash appears. Please let the school know if your child has Chicken Pox. ❄️Head Lice - if your child has Head Lice he/she may return to school after being treated, and cleared by the School Nurse. ❄️You can help your child stay healthy by encouraging frequent and thorough hand washing. Hand washing is the single most important defense against disease. Teach your child to wash their hands after using the toilet and before eating. In an effort to promote good health in all children, it's important that you keep your child home from school for an illness or communicable disease. A child who truly does not feel well enough to participate in class should stay home not only for their sake, but for the sake of the other students. One of the questions many parents have is when, and when not to send their child to school.

In Social Studies, during the month of November, seventh grade students were introduced to a variety of Native American cultures. One specific lesson pertained to the tradition of totem pole carvings of the indigenous people of the Northwest Coast of the United States and Canada. Totem poles represent and commemorate ancestry, stories, people, and events. The seventh graders culminated this unit by creating their own family totem poles. All totems include animal images (as well as recommended traditional colors) that symbolically represent seven family members. Students were also required to compose seven paragraphs, one for each family member, that included the following: the name of the family member and the reason supporting the selected animal for the person. After the projects were submitted, students were provided time in class to read the essays to their classmates. Approximately twenty students volunteered to read paragraphs aloud! Keep up the great work 7th graders!!
